SMART WOOD – Innovative surfaces for wood and natural fiber based materials

In 2017 a new project funded by the Kärntner WirtschaftsförderungsFonds (KWF) was launched on “Innovative, functional coatings and treatments on wood for smart, durable and eco-friendly applications” in the Kompetenzzentrum Holz in the research area Wood Carinthian Competence Center (W3C) in St. Veit / Glan. In the next two years, in cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises in Carinthia, work will be carried out on the subject of coating and surface modification for wood, wood materials and fiber composites.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the innovative power of Carinthian companies in the area of coating and modification solutions essentially for wood and natural fiber products. Therefor the W3C will do technology and market research based on current trends in order to derive and develop new, tailor-made solutions for processes and products for regional companies.

The SMART WOOD project is primarily addressed to SMEs in Carinthia, who want to optimize or develop innovative products and the related processes in collaboration with the W3C.
