Objectives

The objective of the area Wood and Cellulose Chemistry is to provide optimised solutions for the utilisation of biomass – especially wood – depending on the respective situation and to realise the designed concepts.

Therefore, we are active in

• generating a basic understanding of the chemical reactions occurring during the decomposition processes and subsequently converting the acquired knowledge into new or improved processes,
  
  
• conceiving intelligent approaches to selectively isolate the biomass fractions of interest
  
  
• the utilisation of the biomass fractions (as a material or for energy purposes)
  
  
• the follow-up chemistry of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin
  
  
• the continued improvement of the necessary analytics
  
  
• application of the analytics in process simulation and process control
